Questions we hear on North Port yards

Eight short answers. Each one points at the page that owns the full explanation. The service pages keep their own questions.

What does sod installation cost?

Installed sod usually runs $0.85–$1.75 per square foot, with Bahia at the low end and Floratam and Zoysia higher. Haul-off and grading move the number, and the figure is a range, not a bid. The full breakdown is on the sod cost guide.

Which grass should I put down?

We install Floratam St. Augustine, Bahia, and Zoysia. Floratam is the common yard and is cut at 3.5 to 4 inches once it is holding, Bahia is the tougher choice for a large open lot, and Zoysia is denser after it roots. The comparison is the grass types guide.

How often should a North Port lawn be mowed?

Through the wet season, roughly May through September, most St. Augustine and Bahia lawns need a weekly cut. After the rain backs off, many of those yards move to biweekly or a monthly check. The schedule is on the lawn mowing page.

How often do hedges need a visit?

Ligustrum and hibiscus often need a visit every 4 to 8 weeks in the warm months. A slower shrub such as podocarpus can sometimes go a couple of months, and a row that has been let go is a bigger first visit. Hedge trimming is the page for that work.

How do you trim a palm?

On a sabal or a queen palm we take dead, yellow, or hanging fronds and the seed pods. A hurricane cut, which strips the green head down to a tuft, is a bad practice and we do not do it. The palm trimming guide is the full explanation.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

Sometimes, and the answer changes with the species, the size, and the county: North Port, Venice, Nokomis, Osprey, and Laurel are Sarasota County; Port Charlotte, El Jobean, Gulf Cove, and Placida are Charlotte County; Myakka City is Manatee County; and Englewood sits on the county line. Start on the tree removal page, then the Sarasota, Charlotte, or Manatee guide, which points at that county's own page. We do not quote a county fee, and we do not file the application for you.

What do you haul after a storm?

We haul yard debris: branches, palm fronds, downed limbs, and the cuttings from a cleanup. Most loads run $150–$600, which is a range, not a bid, and a pile that shares a trip with work already booked usually costs less. Junk removal prices the load, and the storm cleanup guide covers the days after.

Which towns do you cover?

The crew is based in North Port and works eleven towns across Sarasota, Charlotte, and Manatee counties. Myakka City is the long drive, about an hour, and acreage there is quoted from the visit rather than the residential mowing band. Every town is listed on the service area page.
