Viburnum is the shrub we see most often as a privacy screen around North Port. The work that keeps it a screen is hedge trimming. It is dense and green, and in the warm months it can push several inches between visits. A missed summer becomes a reshape, not a touch-up. It is also one of the plants we use for color and screening in a foundation row, where the height has room to exist.
It is the wrong plant under a window that should stay a window. Coontie belongs there. Viburnum in that spot is a trim forever or a view you lose. On a hedge line it is the right plant if you can live with the interval. Hedge visits run $75–$400 or more depending on length, height, and whether we are maintaining or recovering. A range, not a bid.
What it looks like here
A kept viburnum row is an even green wall off the sidewalk and off the neighbor's roof. An unkept one is a thicket, taller in the middle, wide at the base, and full of interior twigs. Old rows that were only ever sheared on the face go hollow. You see a shell of leaves and dead wood behind it. Ligustrum does the same thing. We thin that interior when the shell is the problem. We do not shear harder in the hottest weeks and hope the plant recovers while it is stressed.
As a foundation plant it needs air at the wall and a mature width you measured before it went in. Pressed to the stucco, it holds humidity. In a coastal yard the salt filter may still allow it where the exposure is reasonable. It is not a dune plant, and it is not an excuse to leave Brazilian pepper behind it.
What we do with it
We square the row to the height you specify, including an HOA line if you send the notice. We haul the clippings. A route costs less per visit than a recovery because the row never becomes a hay field of stems. If the wood is dead, we will say replacement instead of sculpting a stump and calling it a hedge. Planting new viburnum is a landscape install, spaced for the width it will be, not the width in the pot.
Tell us the length and whether this is the first cut in a year or a visit on a schedule. Book the trimming at hedge trimming.
